Glasses and hearing problems
Yes I now have glasses!!!! I am getting older and have been having a really hard time seeing far away. This has been going on for awhile, but I finally went in and got my eyes checked and found out that I need glasses. Big surprise..... not really :) I can finally see the lines while I am driving at night! That is a huge plus to me and to all of you too!
Some other things have been happening to me lately and am now just barely letting people know about it.... so here it goes. The last five months I have been having episodes of hearing loss in my right ear. I lose all hearing and then the room starts spinning. After about ten minutes I will start to hear hissing and crackling in my ear and then the hearing comes back a little and then it takes a couple of days for it to really come back. After these episodes I am really tired and get a really bad headache. I also feel like there is a lot of pressure in my ear. So it started happening right before Nik left and I just brushed it off due to stress. I had another episode after he left and thought the same thing. It happened once on the cruise and thought it was due to being sea sick. I kept having these episodes through June and July and now again in August. So finally I told my Mom about it and she got really mad at me and said that I needed to get in and see a doctor.
I finally went to an Ears, Nose, and Throat Doc and was explaining to him about my symptoms and what was happening. He looked at me and said it sounds like you have Meniere's Disease. I was like I have no idea what that is.... so he explained that it is an inner ear disorder where two channels of fluid communicate with each other. These channels have two different salt contents and what will happen is that I get a little tare in the channel and the fluids will mix and that is when I lose my hearing and get the vertigo. He said that they do not know why it happens and that there is not a cure for this disease. The only thing that they found that will help is to not retain as much water, which will help with not having as much water in your inner ear. They also like you to eat a low sodium diet to help with the retention of water. The low sodium diet will help allieviate the symptoms, so I have been trying to eat a low sodium diet.
I did not realize how much sodium is in everything we eat. It is so crazy to look at the food labels and see how much is in what we eat. I have started to feel better and the pressure has left behind my ear, so that is a plus. I have had a few more tests and we will see what they say. The hearing test showed that I have lost some low tones and high tones. So when I say I really can't hear I am not lying! I have another hearing test in a month because the doc wants to see if my hearing changes. We will see..... I am just glad that I listened to my Mom and went to the doc and he was able to help me and make me start feeling better.
